This page is an assortment of photos highlighting details and craftsmanship from various projects and furniture pieces.
Details are where projects become tactile. They are how we touch the work and how we live with it daily. The majority of a project tends to be standardized in some fashion; we use standardized studs, we use drywall, baseboards and plywood. These become the backdrop of our homes, the canvas where we see the subtle changes and shits in light throughout the day. Also, the more standardized they get the easier it to are also refer to them as “money runs” or places where money is save by doing the same things quickly over and over again.
Then there are the details.
The places where two or more standardized conditions meet and form a unique relationship. The edges. These are the places where craftsmanship and the human decision making process are manifest. They are also often technical places where we have to make sure, for instance, that elements such as water are managed. Paying attention to the details is both the responsibility of the craftsman and of the builder.
