-WINDOWS-

FOSTERING ENVIRONMENTAL CONNECTION

The history of windows can be directly contrasted with the regionally specific development of our habitats. Our buildings are conceived to protect us from the elements; from wind, water, heat and chill. Particularly in Nova Scotia, our buildings serve foremost as enclosures.

Windows on the other hand keep us connected to the sky; to fresh air, the weather, the seasons, to the sun and with a connection to the sun even help mark the passage of time. Windows facilitate both our rising at the beginning of the day and our winding down as the day comes to a close. Windows connect us to the world; they provides views, lines of sight and opportunities to live beyond ourselves.

The window itself is a technology. The history and detailing of a traditional wooden window was so thoroughly developed over generations that it continues to form the basis of modern windows as we integrate new technologies.

Complement this with a sensitive and intentional use of artificial lighting and you are truly on a path towards a healthy balance between a protected and a permeable habitat.

OFFERING

We have spent a substantial portion of the last decade not only designing but building windows.
